B: I know. It’s not usual for me to look so glum.

B: It’s hard to make her smile; she is as solemn as a judge.

【语言点精讲】

cheer up: 使……重新感到喜悦或抱有希望。

sad: 在口语中常用来形容某人情绪低落、心情沮丧，以至于没有做通常会做的事情的心情或精力。

glum: 忧郁的，闷闷不乐的。

burst into: 突然开始做某事，后面常接tears, song, laughter等词。

as solemn as a judge: 形容某人很严厉或严肃的样子。

A: Jane, welcome back to work. I was sorry to hear about your grandmother.

B: Thanks. It’s good to be back. Even though everyone at the funeral was sorrowful, we were glad to have each other for support.

A: Jane，欢迎你回来上班。你祖母的事情我听说了，我很难过。

B: 谢谢，回来的感觉真好。葬礼上每个人都很悲伤，但是大家都庆幸我们还能得到彼此的关照。

funeral: 葬礼。

sorrowful: (听到、看到或知道伤心事时感到)非常伤心的;悲痛的;悲伤的。
